Reverse description Central allegorical scene depicting Queen Isabella of Castile, crowned and robed, standing prominently at centre with Columbus kneeling before her to the right and a kneeling attendant figure to the left, evoking the moment of royal patronage for the voyage of discovery. Two period sailing vessels, including a fully-rigged carrack, are depicted in the background. The upper field carries the arc legend ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS with SAN SALVADOR inscribed across the mid-field. The lower legend reads QUEEN ISABELLA AND COLUMBUS, and the date 1987 appears in the exergue. The engraver's initials FG are visible in the field. A beaded border surrounds the design.
