Obverse description The Liberian coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, a dove in flight, and a rising sun, all above a scroll bearing the national motto. The date 1996 is divided on either side of the shield, with the denomination 100 DOLLARS and fineness mark 999·9 appearing in the lower field. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper border, with THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE inscribed on a ribbon within the arms, and the mint mark PM and gold designation Au. also present.
