| Obverse description | The Lion of Judah, the traditional symbol of the Ethiopian Empire, is depicted in right profile, seated with its right foreleg raised and holding an upright processional cross-tipped staff; the lion wears an imperial crown upon its head. The denomination '100 E$' appears to the right of the central device, while the Ge'ez legend runs along the upper periphery and the date '1966' is inscribed in the lower field below the lion. The legend 'Empire of Ethiopia' is rendered in Latin script in Fraktur blackletter style along the lower border, and additional Ge'ez inscriptions occupy the left field. The overall design is bold and high-relief, consistent with a commemorative pattern issue for the Golden Jubilee of Haile Selassie I's reign. |
