Obverse description The central field bears the quartered coat of arms of Niue, depicting four stars and a shell in the first and third quarters, three sailing vessels in the pale, and crossed hammer and pick in the fourth quarter. The shield is surmounted by a Royal Crown and flanked on either side by sprays of silver fern fronds. The legend 'NIUE' arcs along the upper left rim and '1989' along the upper right rim, both in incuse Roman capitals.

Reverse description The reverse features a finely engraved three-quarter length portrait of tennis champion Steffi Graf in playing stance, depicted in left profile poised over a tennis racket, her hair loose about her shoulders. The denomination '100 DOLLARS' appears in the right field. A continuous circular legend surrounds the design along the rim, commemorating her 1988 Grand Slam title and Olympic Gold Medal at the Seoul Games.
