Pobjoy struck this kilo piece for the Cayman Islands on the centenary of the sinking — April 15, 2012 marked exactly one hundred years since Titanic went down in the North Atlantic with 1,517 people aboard. Pobjoy has built a long business in large-format commemoratives for British Overseas Territories, and the Cayman Islands have served as the issuing authority for dozens of such pieces with no meaningful domestic circulation intended.
Collector pieces of this size and weight rarely leave original packaging, which keeps surviving examples in essentially identical condition regardless of age.
