Reverse description Draped bust of Samuel de Champlain, facing right and wearing a broad-brimmed period hat with flowing hair, rendered in high relief against a frosted proof field. He holds an open scroll bearing a detailed plan or map of early Montréal, while behind him the modern city skyline is depicted in fine engraved lines. The legend CANADA arcs across the top of the coin, the denomination 100 DOLLARS appears along the lower rim, and the inscription MONTRÉAL 1642–1992 occupies the left field, commemorating the 350th anniversary of the city's founding. Engravers' initials SS are visible in the lower right field.
