Reverse description A detailed depiction of the Porte Dauphine, the ornate main gate of the Fortress of Louisbourg, occupying the right-center of the field, surmounted by decorative statuary and flanked by the fortress rampart walls. To the left, a tall-masted sailing vessel is rendered in the harbour, with period figures visible in the foreground approaching the gate. The upper legend reads CANADA 100 DOLLARS in capital letters arcing across the top, with the name Louisbourg in italic script and the commemorative dates 1720 - 1995 inscribed in the upper center field, marking the 275th anniversary of the founding of the fortress.
