Obverse description The complete arms of Barbados occupy the central field, comprising a shield charged with two pride-of-Barbados flowers and a bearded fig tree, supported dexter by a dolphin and sinister by a pelican, with a fisted arm holding two crossed sugar cane stalks as the crest above. A scroll bearing the national motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY appears below the shield. The date 1985 is divided across the field to left and right of the supporters, each flanked by a trident symbol. The legend BARBADOS arcs boldly along the lower periphery, and the inscription 500/1000 FINE GOLD is inscribed in the lower field beneath the scroll. A beaded border frames the entire design.
