Reverse description A powerful tiger in dynamic forward-facing pose with front paws outstretched, set against an intricate background of foliage rendered in fine detail. The Chinese character 虎 (Tiger) appears prominently to the left of the central device, flanked by the designer's initials BK. The peripheral legend YEAR OF THE TIGER arcs along the lower field, with the purity and weight designations 1oz .9999 Au completing the inscription. The overall composition celebrates the Year of the Tiger in the Chinese Lunar calendar.

Additional information

The Perth Mint's lunar series has run continuously since 1996, making the Year of the Tiger the third time that animal has appeared in the sequence — the first in 1998, the second in 2010. Each twelve-year cycle restarts the zodiac, and collectors who began with the inaugural series now hold three generations of the same subject in differing designs.

The sixth portrait of Elizabeth II, by Jody Clark, was introduced in 2015 and remained in use until her death in September 2022 — meaning this coin sits near the very end of her effigy's production run on Australian bullion issues.
