The 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 generated a global commemorative coin flood in 2019, and the Perth Mint was among the most ambitious participants. Australia had a direct operational stake in the mission: the Honeysuckle Creek tracking station in the Australian Capital Territory was the facility that relayed the first television images of the moonwalk to the world, before NASA switched to Parkes Observatory for the bulk of the broadcast.
