Additional information

Australia's lunar series has cycled through two full twelve-year rounds since the Perth Mint popularized the format in the 1990s, and the Royal Australian Mint's own entries into dragon-year coinage now compete in an increasingly crowded collector market. The 2024 dragon year holds particular weight in Chinese cultural tradition — the dragon is the only mythological creature in the zodiac and is associated with imperial authority and auspicious birth years, driving demand from diaspora communities across Southeast Asia and beyond.

The sixth portrait of Elizabeth II, by sculptor Jody Clark, was introduced in 2015 and never appeared on circulating Australian coinage — its use has been confined largely to collector issues.
