| Reverse description | The reverse presents a boldly rendered, high-relief depiction of the Basilisk, the legendary king of serpents from European mythology, occupying the central field. The creature is shown rampant, combining the crested head and beaked visage of a cockerel with large, outstretched bat-like wings, scaled reptilian forelegs, and a coiling serpentine tail with detailed scale work. To the lower left, a secondary vignette depicts a figure recoiling within a rocky archway, alluding to the creature's lethal gaze. The legend MYTHICAL CREATURES arcs along the upper left periphery, with BASILISK along the upper right; the Perth Mint's P mintmark appears at the right, and the engraver's initials NM are visible within the secondary vignette. The design was executed by Natasha Muhl and demonstrates fine sculptural detail throughout the frosted relief. |
