Perth Mint's annual lunar bullion series has run continuously since 1996, and the Dragon iteration lands in the second cycle — the first ran 1996–2007, the second 2008–2019. This 2019 piece closes out that second twelve-year cycle, making it the final Dragon issue before the series reset. The "6th Portrait" designation refers to Jody Clark's effigy of Elizabeth II, adopted by the Perth Mint in 2019 and distinguishing late examples within the series from otherwise identical earlier strikes.
Demand for the Dragon year consistently outpaces most other animal signs in Asian bullion markets, a pattern the Perth Mint has exploited through targeted mintage controls.
