Perth Mint's lunar series is among the few bullion programs to command genuine secondary-market premiums based on design year alone, and the horse issue tends to outperform several adjacent years in that regard. The series launched in 1996 and committed to a twelve-year cycle, meaning the 2002 date falls mid-sequence — past the novelty of the early issues but well before the final-year buying that inflated later mintages.
Mintage was capped at 30,000 pieces across the one-ounce gold denomination for this year.
