Obverse description The fourth crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The legend surrounding the portrait reads ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 100 DOLLARS, with the engraver's initials IRB truncated below the neck. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field.

Reverse description Two kangaroos depicted in bold relief, standing before a map of Australia rendered in the field, with a privy mark of the Liberty Bell shown in miniature at the base between the kangaroos' feet. A dotted inner border frames the central design. The circular legend THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET arcs across the upper portion, with the specifications 1 oz. 9999 GOLD flanking the right side, and the date 2002 appearing in the lower exergual area between two raised dots.
