Issued to mark the 140th anniversary of Canadian Confederation in 2007, this coin commemorates the British North America Act of 1867, which united the provinces of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into a single dominion. The choice of 14-karat gold — uncommon for modern Canadian commemoratives — kept the issue accessible in price during a period when spot gold was climbing sharply toward what would become its historic 2008 run.
