Reverse description Ultra high relief depiction of an Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle (Aquila audax) prominently occupying the foreground, its distinctive dark brown plumage rendered with meticulous feather detail. A second raptor, consistent in portraiture with a Bald Eagle bearing a white head and yellow bill, is positioned behind and to the left, creating a layered compositional depth. The reverse employs an enhanced gold proof finish to differentiate the design elements through contrasting surface textures. The legend AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE arcs across the upper field, with the mint mark JM P, date 2026, and specifications 1oz 9999 GOLD inscribed in the lower portion of the field.

Additional information

Perth Mint's ultra high relief gold program has pushed die pressure and polishing cycles well beyond standard proof production, requiring multiple strikes at tonnages that would distort a conventional planchet. The "gold enhanced" finish — selectively applied to specific relief areas before striking — is a post-blank, pre-strike process that survives the coining press only because of the shallow depth at which the colorant bonds to the metal surface.

Charles III's first portrait as reigning monarch on Australian coinage followed the death of Elizabeth II in September 2022, with the Perth Mint among the earliest Commonwealth mints to finalize an approved effigy for circulation and collector issues alike.
