| Obverse description | The obverse features a highly detailed naturalistic composition centered on a mature oak branch bearing a cluster of acorns amid broad, deeply veined oak leaves, rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail. The arc legend WITH FREEDOM OF THE PRESS curves along the upper rim, and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appears in the upper field. The inscription LIBERTY BEARS FRUIT is prominently displayed in the lower field, with the date 2023 positioned below it, while the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed to the right of the central device. Designer initials DW and JFM appear in the lower field flanking the central inscriptions. The design is part of the ongoing Preamble to the Declaration of Independence series celebrating American liberties. |

The American Platinum Eagle program launched in 1997, making the U.S. the last of the major sovereign mints to issue a platinum bullion coin — trailing Canada's Maple Leaf by over a decade. Congress authorized the series under the American Platinum Eagle Act, with the bullion and proof versions carrying identical face values despite platinum's spot price rendering that denomination purely nominal from day one.
Since 2018, the proof version has cycled through a multi-year "Preamble to the Declaration of Independence" reverse design series, but the bullion strike retains the original Mercanti reverse — a design choice that has remained unchanged across the coin's entire production run.
