Pick 40 encompasses a long signature run — Bobb, Demas, Harewood, and Dookeran all appear across the series, reflecting genuine turnover at the top of the Central Bank through the late 1980s and into the 1990s. Dookeran's tenure in particular came during a period of fiscal pressure following the oil price collapse that hit Trinidad hard after 1986, when government revenues fell sharply and the exchange rate peg became increasingly difficult to defend.

De La Rue printed the series in London. The 100-dollar denomination was the highest in circulation at the time of issue.
