| Obverse description | Printed in red on a cream ground, the obverse carries a classical allegorical seated female figure with child and open book at left, rendered in intaglio. The bank's full English title THE HONGKONG & SHANGHAI BANKING CORPORATION arches across the top, flanked by Chinese characters 香港上海滙豐銀行, with numeral 100 counters at each corner and the denomination ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS set within an ornate guilloche frame at centre; a large oval blank field at right is reserved for the branch overprint stamp. The lower portion bears a promise-to-pay clause, place and date of issue, serial number, and two manuscript signature lines for Chief Accountant and Chief Manager. |
