Obverse description Red and black intaglio note with four corner guilloche panels bearing $100 numerals. Upper centre vignette shows two allegorical Indigenous figures flanking the Bank of Montreal coat of arms, with paid-up capital inscriptions. Oval portrait vignettes of two bank officials appear at left and centre-right, with the bank title in bold letterpress and the date Montreal, 2nd January, 1903.

Reverse description Printed entirely in steel-blue intaglio, the reverse is dominated by elaborate lathe-work guilloche filling all four corners and borders. A central oval vignette presents a finely engraved view of the Bank of Montreal's neoclassical head office facade with horse-drawn carriages at street level, encircled by the legend BANK OF MONTREAL. Denomination inscriptions ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS appear in panels at top and bottom.
