| Obverse description | Central device depicts an armoured equestrian figure, shown in profile facing right, holding a raised lance or staff, mounted on a striding horse rendered in relief. The dual dates 1399 (AH) and 1979 (AD) appear in Arabic-Eastern numerals flanking the horseman at upper left and upper right respectively. The Arabic legend of the state title curves along the lower portion of the field, reading 'الجماهيرية العربية الليبية الشعبية الإشتراكية' (Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya). The design is contained within a plain inner circle bordered by a beaded rim. |
