By 1990, Yugoslavia's monetary system was under severe strain — hyperinflation was accelerating, and this 100 Dinara note entered circulation just as the federal state itself was beginning to fracture along republican lines. The National Bank issued it as part of a broader redenomination effort, but purchasing power erosion made notes of this face value nearly worthless within months of issue, which paradoxically kept many unspent and in reasonable condition.

ZIN had been producing Yugoslav currency in Belgrade since the interwar period, and the collaboration between Andrić and Hrvanović — with Hrvanović responsible for the engraving — was a recurring pairing in the final years of federal issue production.
