By 1993, ABnc was in serious financial difficulty — the company would file for bankruptcy the following year, making this among the final Costa Rican issues produced under that long-running contract. The Banco Central had used American Bank Note Company for decades, and the relationship ended not by choice but by collapse.

The security thread on this series runs vertically and is visible under transmitted light; early examples from this printing show occasional thread misalignment, a known quality control issue from ABNC's troubled final production years.
