Obverse description Portrait of Ricardo Jiménez Oreamuno in intaglio to the left, with a central vignette of cattle grazing in a pastoral landscape beneath a hillside. The upper margin bears the bank title BANCO CENTRAL DE COSTA RICA, with the date 24 de mayo de 1971 and place San José, Costa Rica inscribed centrally. A commemorative inscription marking 150 años de Independencia 1821–1971 appears to the right, with the serial number and series letter printed in red.
