Obverse description Large cast brass coin featuring a central square perforation surrounded by four bold Chinese characters arranged in cruciform reading order within a raised inner rim. The obverse legend reads 咸豐重寶 (Xianfeng Zhongbao), denoting the reign title of the Xianfeng Emperor and the designation 'heavy currency.' The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) with strongly modelled strokes in high relief against a flat field. An outer raised rim encircles the entire design, typical of large-denomination Qing dynasty cash coinage. The surfaces show the characteristic texture of sand-cast production.
