Obverse description Large round cast coin with a central square hole. The four characters of the reign title and denomination legend are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central perforation, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 咸豐重寶 (Xianfeng Zhongbao), meaning 'Xianfeng [Emperor's] Heavy Currency.' The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) in bold relief against a flat, unadorned field. The outer rim is a plain, raised border. The overall style is typical of large-denomination Qing dynasty cast coinage.
