Additional information

Rwanda's Gorilla bullion series, launched in 2013, was produced in partnership with the Bavarian State Mint (Bayerische Hauptmünzamt) and deliberately positioned to compete with established fractional gold programs from South Africa and Australia. The one-gram format targets entry-level bullion buyers in a market that the Munich mint has aggressively cultivated across multiple African issuing authorities.

Mountain gorilla populations in the Virunga range — shared between Rwanda, Uganda, and the DRC — had fallen below 300 individuals at their lowest census before conservation programs reversed the decline. Rwanda has leveraged that recovery as a sovereign branding asset since well before this series began.
