Poland's Narvik commemorative series, issued in the early 1990s, honored the Norwegian campaign of April–May 1940, where Polish infantry under General Zygmunt Szyszko-Bohusz fought alongside Allied forces in one of the few early land victories against German troops. The trial strike in nickel precedes the issued gold and silver versions, produced by Mennica Polska as a production proof before authorized release — an internal artifact of the minting process rather than a coin intended for any circulation or collector sale.
Fischer Po#P393 is among the rarer catalog entries for this commemorative run. Nickel trials from Mennica Polska in this period survive in very small numbers.
