Comments

Ahrweiler Kreis notgeld at this denomination belongs to the hyperinflation peak of mid-1923, when municipal and county administrations across Germany were authorised to print emergency currency simply because the Reichsbank could not supply sufficient physical notes fast enough to keep pace with price collapse. The Kreisausschuss — the county executive committee — was not a bank; issuing paper money was entirely outside its normal administrative function.

B. Blachner was a local Ahrweiler printer, not a specialist currency firm. That shows in the production values typical of provincial notgeld at this level.
