Stettin's municipal authority — the Magistrat — was among hundreds of German city governments forced into emergency currency production during the hyperinflation of 1923, when Reichsbank notes were losing value faster than they could be printed. M. Bauchwitz was a local Stettin printer with no particular specialization in security printing; the city used what was available.
At 100,000 Mark, this note was already obsolete within weeks of issue — by late 1923, denominations had climbed into the billions.
