| Obverse description | The obverse is divided into three vertical panels within a ruled border, surmounted by the Gothic-script heading 'Stadt Düsseldorf'. The left panel contains a vignette of a classical architectural gateway with the numeral '100 000' below; the central panel carries a circular portrait medallion of Peter von Cornelius in right-facing profile, with his name inscribed around the inner border; and the right panel bears the Düsseldorf civic shield above the repeated numeral '100 000'. A two-line letterpress text at the foot gives the promise of payment, place, and date 'Düsseldorf, den 15. August 1923', followed by the facsimile signature of the Oberbürgermeister. |
