Additional information

This issue belongs to a Turkish gold series produced in the early 1980s under the military government that had seized power in the September 1980 coup. The "Islamic World" designation reflects the junta's calculated pivot toward religious nationalism as a counterweight to leftist movements — a policy shift with consequences that would define Turkish politics for decades.

KM#956 is among the heavier gold issues of the series, struck at a fineness consistent with traditional Ottoman-influenced coinage standards Turkey maintained long after the Republic's founding.
