Issued to mark the 450th anniversary of Vientiane's founding as the Lao royal capital — traditionally dated to 1560 under King Setthathirath, who relocated the seat of power from Luang Prabang. The commemorative rationale is solid history, though the dating of the city's formal establishment has always been slightly contested among historians.

The "Printed: 30.04.1945" field in the catalog data is almost certainly a database artifact, not a genuine print date — that would predate the Bank of the Lao PDR by decades. The actual production date for this commemorative issue is 2010.
