Yugoslavia's hyperinflation of 1989 was severe enough that this 100,000 dinar note — the highest denomination in circulation when issued — was already inadequate within months. The National Bank redenominated at a ratio of 10,000 to 1 in January 1990, effectively erasing five zeros overnight and rendering the entire series obsolete almost immediately after issue.
Dragiša Andrić handling both design and engraving in-house at ZIN was not unusual for the period, but the compressed production timeline under inflationary pressure left the series with minimal security features — the watermark being essentially the only counterfeit deterrent on a note that briefly represented significant purchasing power.
