Brazil's triple-digit inflation of the early 1990s made large denominations like this one obsolete almost immediately after printing. The cruzeiro itself was scrapped entirely in August 1993, replaced by the cruzeiro real at a ratio of 1,000 to 1 — meaning this 100,000-cruzeiro note converted to just 100 cruzeiros real on the day of the changeover. The 3rd edition reflects Casa da Moeda's scramble to keep pace with purchasing power collapse; successive editions within the same denomination were necessary simply to meet demand as earlier print runs were absorbed and spent within weeks.
