By the time this note entered circulation in late 1923, Germany's hyperinflation had progressed to the point where such denominations were functionally mundane — a loaf of bread in Berlin cost hundreds of billions of marks within weeks of this series being issued. The Reichsdruckerei was running presses around the clock, and the ink was barely dry before the face value became insufficient for ordinary transactions.
This is one of the last denominations before the Rentenmark stabilization of November 1923 rendered the entire Papiermark series worthless overnight. Notes were exchanged at one Rentenmark to one trillion old marks.
