Additional information

Issued to mark the 200th anniversary of the Warsaw University of Technology, founded in 1815 under the Congress Kingdom of Poland — a Russian-controlled puppet state established at the Congress of Vienna that same year. The institution was shuttered by Tsarist authorities in 1831 following the November Uprising, reopened, suppressed again after 1863, and only fully reconstituted as a Polish institution after the First World War. That the university survived at all across nearly a century of partition-era politics makes the bicentennial itself a historically loaded occasion.
