The Polish National Committee — Komitet Narodowy Polski — was established in Paris in 1917 by Roman Dmowski as the principal diplomatic representation of Polish interests to the Allied powers, operating at a moment when Poland itself did not yet exist as a state. Its recognition by France, Britain, and the United States gave it the authority to organize the Polish Army in France, the so-called Błękitna Armia, which eventually numbered nearly 70,000 troops. This coin is part of NBP's long-running series commemorating the centenary of Polish independence, which ran across multiple annual releases from 2016 through 2018.
