Łukasz Ciepliński led the post-war anti-communist resistance organization WiN (Wolność i Niezawisłość — Freedom and Independence) until his capture by the Stalinist security apparatus in 1947. He was tortured extensively during interrogation and executed by the Polish secret police in March 1951 at Mokotów Prison in Warsaw, along with six of his subordinates. The communist authorities concealed the burial site for decades.
This issue belongs to Poland's "Cursed Soldiers" series, commemorating members of the armed underground who refused to accept Soviet-imposed rule after 1945. Ciepliński was posthumously promoted to Brigadier General in 2007.
