Obverse description At centre, the Polish crowned white eagle with wings displayed is depicted within a circular cartouche, set against a stylised Gothic architectural background of pointed arches. Above the eagle, at the apex of the design, appears the Christogram 'IHS' on a globe symbol. The peripheral legend reads 'RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA' to the left and '1997 ROK' to the right, with the denomination '10 ZŁOTYCH' inscribed along the lower rim. The mint mark 'mw' appears near the base of the eagle cartouche.

Reverse description A three-quarter rear-facing effigy of Pope John Paul II in papal vestments, depicted in the act of elevating the Eucharistic host with his right hand raised, set against a large cross in the background field. The Pope's face is shown in right profile, his expression solemn and devoted. The legend 'JAN PAWEŁ II' curves along the left border, while 'EUCHARYSTIA I WOLNOŚĆ' arcs across the upper field and descends along the right border. A small engraver's monogram appears at lower right.
