Fryderyk Skarbek was a Polish economist, novelist, and social reformer whose name is largely forgotten outside Poland — but he holds one distinction that ensures his place in every biography of Frédéric Chopin: he was the composer's godfather. The coin marks the 230th anniversary of Skarbek's birth. His 1869 autobiography remains a primary source for early 19th-century Polish intellectual life under Russian partition.
