Additional information

Issued as part of NBP's long-running numismatic series documenting the history of Polish coinage, this piece commemorates the złoty itself — a currency whose name derives from the Polish word for gold, though it has been struck in silver and base metals through most of its modern existence. The interwar złoty, introduced in 1924 under Finance Minister Władysław Grabski, replaced the hyperinflated Polish mark at a rate of 1,800,000 to one.

The communist-era złoty was severed from that lineage entirely, redenominated in 1995 at 10,000 old złotych to one new — the currency's fourth major reissue in under a century.
