China's lunar silver series has been issued annually since 1981, making the Rabbit one of the later entries in a now well-established program. The 2011 issue marks the second time the Rabbit had appeared in the modern series — the first being 1999 — and collectors tracking the full twelve-animal cycle will note that mintage controls on the later issues tightened considerably compared to the comparatively liberal production runs of the 1980s editions.
