Reverse description Fan-shaped flan featuring a finely detailed high-relief depiction of two golden snub-nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus roxellana) perched on a tree branch amid foliage, symbolising the Chinese lunar Year of the Monkey. The monkey on the right faces forward while the one on the left is shown in a more recumbent pose, together conveying naturalistic movement and vitality. The denomination 10元 is inscribed in Chinese characters in the upper right field. A small cyclical calendar inscription 甲申年 (jiǎ shēn nián, the sexagenary year corresponding to 2004) appears in the lower right field. The design is rendered in frosted cameo relief against a mirror-polished background.
