| Obverse description | The national emblem of the People's Republic of China occupies the central field, depicting the Gate of Tiananmen beneath a constellation of five stars — one large star flanked by four smaller stars — all encircled by a wreath of grain ears bound at the base with a cogwheel. The legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs around the upper portion of the coin in Chinese characters. The date 1993 is inscribed in the lower exergue in Arabic numerals. |

Issued in the year marking the centenary of Soong Ching-ling's birth, this coin commemorates a figure whose political trajectory was genuinely unusual — the widow of Sun Yat-sen, she rejected the Nationalist government her brother-in-law Chiang Kai-shek led and aligned openly with the Communist Party decades before 1949. She was granted honorary PRC presidency shortly before her death in 1981, the only person to hold that title.
