Obverse description A finely detailed high-relief depiction of the Great Wall of China occupies the central field, rendered in frosted finish against a mirror-polished background, showing the wall ascending dramatically over rugged mountainous terrain toward a watchtower at the apex. The Chinese legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs around the upper periphery in bold Chinese characters, with 中 at lower left and 圆 at lower right flanking the central device. The date 1990 appears in the exergue along the lower rim, its numerals lightly incuse into the wall's paving stones for artistic effect.

Reverse description The central field features a dynamic composition of two iconic Chinese mythological symbols rendered in high-relief frosted detail against a mirror field: a coiling five-clawed imperial dragon occupies the lower half, its scaled body sinuously curved as it rears upward with open jaws, while a fenghuang (phoenix) soars above with outstretched wings and elaborate plumage, its long tail feathers sweeping gracefully to the left. Stylized cloud scrolls appear at the left and right margins, framing the principal devices. The denomination 10 and the Chinese character 元 are inscribed to the right of center in the field.
