Obverse description Central view of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at the Temple of Heaven (Tiantan), Beijing, rendered in fine detail with its triple-eaved circular roof, surrounding balustrades, and grand ceremonial stairway leading to the forecourt. The Chinese legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs along the upper periphery in Chinese characters. The date 1990 appears in the lower exergue in Arabic numerals.

Reverse description A giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) seated atop a rocky outcrop and facing right, depicted in a naturalistic pose with one forepaw raised. A spray of bamboo rises to the left of the central motif. The upper field bears a bilingual inscription in Chinese characters and Latin script denoting the weight, fineness, and gold content of the coin, along with a mint mark encircled at the right. The denomination 10元 appears prominently in the lower field.
