Reverse description The reverse presents a richly detailed scene depicting the Confucian philosopher Mencius (孟子) in a teaching setting. At right, a bearded elderly scholar — Mencius — is seated before a low table bearing an open scroll, rendered in fine relief. At upper left, a group of four female figures in traditional Han-dynasty attire are seated on a mat in attentive posture. At lower left, a younger male student is seated on the ground, listening reverently. The legend 孟子 (Mencius) appears at upper center, flanked by the inscription 约公元前372-289年 (approximately 372–289 BC) in smaller characters. The denomination 10元 is inscribed at the lower center of the field.
