Obverse description The obverse depicts a finely detailed scene from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, showing the monk Xuanzang mounted on a white horse crossing a stone bridge, accompanied by his three disciples: Zhu Bajie carrying a rake and luggage over his shoulder, Sandy, and Sun Wukong striding ahead with his staff. Rocky outcroppings and blossoming plum branches frame the composition in the lower field, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished background. The Chinese national inscription 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs along the upper periphery, and the date 2003 appears in the lower exergue.
